  • In Utah, approximately 65 percent of those experiencing homelessness are individuals and 35 percent are families.
  • Homelessness tends to be episodic.
  • 54 percent of Utah’s homeless families and 68 percent of Utah’s homeless individuals exit emergency shelters within one month of entering them.

While the consequences of homelessness are devastating for anyone, families are particularly impacted. Nearly all aspects of life are affected by homelessness.

Refugees are people fleeing violence and persecution—in Syria, Iraq, Somalia, and other countries in crisis. They are seeking safety and the chance to move their lives forward.

  • There are approximately 60,000 refugees living in Utah.
  • Out of the nearly 20 million refugees in the world, fewer than 1 percent are considered for resettlement worldwide.

The best thing you can do to help a refugee is to befriend a refugee.
